There was a lot of ruckus in the past over data protection across the world, however nothing much has been said or done. In the descent of world revolving on web , our social and cultural realities are shifting with every right click.

Advertisements are said to create an impact on the consumers mind but digital advertisements are doing greater harm than just intruding our version of truth.

The advertising we’re constantly consuming paints a picture of society, thus shaping how we view ourselves and what many aspire to.Marshall Mcluhan would have foreseen today’s digital advertising situations to say


“Ours is the first age in which many thousands of the best trained minds have made it a full-time business to get inside the collective public mind ,to get inside in order to manipulate, exploit, and control”.





There is no doubts in adhering to the fact that we humans are no more targeted audiences, we are commodities for marketers.

Not only google and facebook , hundred of other applications have access to your locations and activities that you perform which enables them to access your personality type, your needs, demands to attack you with highly targeted ads.

Recently with latest features Amazon's Alexa can set up all your activities and can even summaries your mails by accessing your location ,Google’s personal assistant has had the same feature.

Thus today the marketers are not investing in advertisements, but to understand consumer as a person, to track him/her.



When was the last time when you bothered to look out for the privacy policy of any mobile application before accepting it?

Your answer wouldn't be amusing, because none of us ever did. Most of the mobile applications are left unaccounted because they have cunningly covered stealing your data in the user privacy policy.


Let alone the breach of privacy, the damages done by these digital advertisements are fatal to the brewing cultural shift.Advertising also impact values.




While it reflects society to a certain degree, it also has the effect of ‘normalizing’ values or behaviors, Teenagers are the most vulnerable to fall prey to deceptive world offered by the advertising culture.


Recently in an advertisement by Netflix , they were suggesting that it is better to stay indoors rather than going out on New Year's Eve, it is cynical to see that they are promoting people to be

isolated rather than putting up together on one of the most celebrated days and with the growing acceptance of this trend many unwanted consequences can be generated.


Thereby our realities aren't real anymore,We aren't left with any option other than accepting what is being served to us in the form of concocted reality,not until we become woke enough to detach our life's from the entrapping social media atmosphere.Not until we believe in a life beyond the virtue of virtual networking.
