Some essential travel tips to follow for solo female travellers

Traveling is fun, but it can also get chaotic in a matter of seconds. There are times when a perfectly planned travel may go haywire. What makes things worse is the last-minute packing combined with the dilemma of what to take; and what to leave. If that is not enough, the fact that you have to look good adds to the chaos.

Packing your bag and maintaining yourself while on a holiday can be stressful. If you think you are alone, then think again. This is something that can happen to even the most avid traveler. To help you overcome such situations, here are a few useful tips.

Tips to look your best even when you travel

When we are traveling, our skincare routine takes a back seat. The change of climate, place, and water can take a toll on our skin as well. The worst thing you would want is to have an uneven suntan or tired-looking skin. Here are a few things you can follow

1. Try to stick to your skincare routine

Generally, when you are traveling, following the normal skincare routine can be tough. However, it is still advisable to try to maintain at least 70% of your skincare routine even when you travel. Carry all the essential skin care products depending on the duration of your stay.

2. Avoid using hotel soaps

As much as this may sound odd, it is best to void using hotel soaps. First of all, you really cannot predict the quality of the materials. Secondly, if you have ultra-sensitive skin, the last thing you need is to develop an allergy. That certainly changes when you stay at a super luxury resort like the Marriotts , Oberoi & Taj but if you are staying at a budget home-stay you should be vary of the hotel soap, conditioner, shampoo and almost everything you apply on your skin.

3. Be prepared for your plane ride

Things are a lot more manageable during short flights. The real challenge comes when it's a long one. The long hours can take a toll on our skin and dehydrate it as well. To keep your skin hydrated during the flight, use a night cream or facial moisturizer with a thick consistency.

4. Keep facial masks handy

When you are on vacation, keeping facial masks handy can be very helpful. It will save you the time and energy of looking after your skin. They also come in handy when even if you are traveling by air. This is the next best alternative for those who are particular about their skin.

5. Wear less make-up

Naturally, you want to look your best even when you travel; however, wearing less make-up is advisable. In general, traveling can take a toll on our skin; and, by adding chemicals, you're just making things worse. Stick to the basics of a lip liner, lipstick, eye shadow, and a mascara. You can keep a 3 in 1 for your foundation and compact needs.

6. Reduce the liquids

The days of packing your large-sized cosmetic bottles in your handbag are gone. Now there are restrictions about the permissible quantity. You can transfer some liquids into small travel-sized containers so that you can pack it in your handbag. In case you need more, get yourself some more travel-sized bottles and pack them in your suitcase.

7. Do not forget your emergency kit

For those who have sensitive skin, having an emergency kit is very important. In this kit, keep your medicated cream, tablets, and other such things that would help you. For those with oily skin, speak to your dermatologist. You can ask him what kind of emergency products you would need based on your skin.

Packing tips while traveling

When you are traveling, it is always good to pack smart. Being prepared for any situation is the key. Now that you have a brief idea about how to take care of your skin while traveling, let us look at some essential packing tips.

1. Pack according to the region

Before you pack, make sure that you check the climatic conditions of the destination. This will help you to gauge what kind of clothes you would need. The best thing to do would be to carry all-rounder clothing. Do not forget to add one classy and formal attire.

2. Keep two change of clothes in your handbag

While you may check-in your suitcase, in your handbag it is best to have reserve clothes. Keep at least two t-shirts along with your lingerie. This way you are not left stranded in case your suitcase is lost. An extra change of clothes is also advisable for long flights.

3. Skip the long collection of shoes

Some people love to pack at least 4-5 pairs of shoes. This takes unnecessary space. Pack one formal shoe and one casual shoe or a flip flop. Instead of taking up space with your shoes, you can pack a few pairs of socks or shoe liners.

4. Keep the gold in a safe place

As much as you want to wear your gold chain or earring, it is best not to keep them on. You can accessorize your clothing with regular jewelry. Replace your gold chain with an oxidized or gold-plated chain.

5. Make a checklist

You may have a good memory, but it useful to prepare a checklist before you pack. Pen down all the essential things you would need. This way, you will not end up packing unnecessarily. It is also advisable to make a separate checklist for everyone who is traveling along with you.

6. Keep a thin towel handy

You may be checking into a hotel when you arrive at your destination, but there is nothing wrong with packing a thin towel. This is advisable, especially if you are traveling by road. It can also come in handy during the stop-over if you want to shower at the airport.

7. Keep space for your shopping

As much as you want to pack your entire closet, it’s still best to keep space for your shopping. If you are on vacation, you are bound to shop for something or the other. One trick here is to carry fewer clothes and go clothes shopping during your holiday. It is also an excellent way to update your wardrobe. You certainly don't wan to miss out on that exclusive local dress just because you do not have enough space in your bag.
